Completing the Community Center is a lengthy task that typically takes players multiple in-game years and requires spending a significant amount of gold to purchase crop seeds, animals, and upgraded tools such as axes and fishing rods. The Version 1.5 update of the game, which was released in late 2020, allowed Stardew players to vary up the Community Center’s requirements each play-through by enabling Remix Bundles, which need different combinations of ingredients when compared to the standard bundles released in the base version of the game.

On the Stardew Valley subreddit, a player going by u/Nellynee reported on their attempts to complete the Community Center requirements without spending any gold. Unfortunately, they learned that this is impossible, as one of the Community Center rooms, the Vault, simply requires the player to pay large amounts of money to refurbish it. Even taking the Vault out of consideration, players must purchase animals for their farm to produce milk and eggs and hunt for truffles. Additionally, some crops, such as flowers, do not drop naturally in the wild and must be grown from purchased seeds.

Ultimately, u/Nellynee calculated that the minimum amount of money needed to complete the Community Center. Using only standard bundles, it costs 125,295 gold, 43,000 of which is dedicated to the Vault. However, this low-spending challenge requires a significant amount of luck, as it relies heavily on finding seeds and saplings within randomly spawning treasure chests in the Mines and Skull Cavern dungeons. It also necessitates the player spend a good deal of time digging through garbage cans, planting Mixed Seeds and hoping for the right results, and increasing their friendship with the character Emily, who can gift friendly players with animal products such as wool. In fact, choosing Emily as the player’s spouse could potentially decrease the minimum required gold even further, as she will give a spouse animal-related gifts even more frequently.

It is interesting to note that the total of 125,295 gold calculated by u/Nellynee is only slightly less than the 135,000 gold required if the player instead chooses to side with the Joja Corporation over the Pelican Town residents. Unlike the Junimos, who value crops and animal products, Joja requires only money to improve the town, and will shut down the community center and drive locally owned businesses to close their doors permanently.

Stardew Valley is currently available for Android, iOS, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
