Stardew Valley is the surprisingly successful farming sim created wholly by a single developer, Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe. The charming world and engaging gameplay of Stardew Valley have propelled it to sell over 10 million copies since its release.

As with the 1.4 update, the promised 1.5 update will be completely free to owners of Stardew Valley. Barone recently finished the roll-out of Stardew Valley’s 1.4’s content update to all platforms that the game is available on, adding a variety of new content and new endgame activities for players to enjoy. At the moment, Barone hasn’t shared any information as to what 1.5 will offer, but if he follows the pattern of 1.4’s release, he’ll gradually start sharing screenshots and reveals in the months to come.
Stardew Valley tells the tale of an office worker who has inherited a farm from their late grandfather. After growing weary of their corporate employment, the protagonist heads to Pelican Town and Stardew Valley to revitalize the family farm. The game offers plenty of other things to do as well, including mining, fishing, crafting, and building relationships with the townsfolk, similarly to the original Harvest Moon titles.
Stardew Valley immediately took the world by storm at its release, with its achievements including climbing to the top of the list of most downloaded Switch titles and receiving a bevy of gaming awards. Its regular content updates, including the addition of co-op play with up to three additional farmers has helped to keep the game fresh and interesting as some players devote up to hundreds of hours to the title.
Although Barone continues to devote resources to Stardew Valley, it’s not the only project he has in mind. Barone recently revealed that he wants to work on another game set in the Stardew Valley universe that won’t revolve around farming. While much about this proposed game remains unknown, it may provide an interesting window into the world of Stardew Valley for players who aren’t interested in farming sims.
Stardew Valley is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and mobile devices.
