Bethesda recently showed the first Starfield gameplay, including the game’s character creator. Based on the footage, it does not appear as though players will be able to create an alien character, with all the options being strictly human. The trailer did confirm that there will be animal-like aliens that Starfield players encounter on their adventures, including large insect-like creatures and a beast that resembles a dinosaur with a sci-fi twist. However, there is also evidence that intelligent aliens could very well exist in the Starfield universe.

The first evidence of this is the Starfield character creation tool. Starfield players are able to choose from three different traits whenever they make a new character in the game, and one of the options is Alien DNA. Now, it’s entirely possible that Alien DNA could refer to the animal-like aliens that are spotted in the trailer as opposed to intelligent alien life that players may encounter in the game, but that would be odd. Unfortunately, Starfield fans don’t have more information on what the Alien DNA trait pertains, as the gameplay videos did not reveal anything else beyond that it exists.
While this is evidence that Starfield will have intelligent alien races, not just the animal creatures spotted in the trailer, there is also evidence that these alien races could be hostile. On Reddit, user i_need_a_fast_horse posted a screenshot of graffiti from the Starfield city Neon. Neon is one of the major Starfield cities that players will visit during their time in the game, but graffiti there serves as a grim warning.
The graffiti says “THEY ARE COMING.” Now, this could be in reference to human Starfield characters. After all, Starfield will have multiple factions in conflict with one another, so perhaps this graffiti is in reference to an antagonistic faction. However, the tone of it definitely seems to be pointing in the direction of a hostile alien race.
The Starfield release date is now some point in 2023, so fans will likely have to wait until next year to learn what exactly this graffiti means and if there is any intelligent alien life to find in the game. While they wait for more info, Starfield fans can continue analyzing the gameplay footage for more clues about what Bethesda’s next major game will entail.
Starfield launches in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X.
