In fact, there were some who theorized that Starfield could be coming this April to coincide with the International Day of Human Space Flight, which takes place on April 12. Obviously, that’s just speculation and neither Bethesda nor its parent company ZeniMax have confirmed this. All that’s known is that the game is set to launch sometime in 2023, with hopes that it will be within the first half of the year. But outside that, all anyone can do is wait for official word to come from the developer or publisher.

To make things even more vague, the Starfield release date has been changed over on Steam, where it now says that the space RPG is “Coming Soon.” Now that it no longer says simply “2023,” this change throws a bit of a curveball when it comes to the release window as it may feel even more up in the air. That’s not to say the game has been delayed again or that there’s a problem with the release, but hopefully Bethesda will be able to shine some light onto what this change to the launch date actually means.
It’s possible the studio could make such an announcement at the upcoming Starfield deep dive, which is expected to occur sometime after the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Livestream, which is on January 25. Hopefully, “Coming Soon” is just the studio’s way of preparing for a solid release date for the game, but only time will tell on that front.
Not only is the game hotly anticipated, but playtesters have reportedly been loving Starfield, which definitely bodes well for the finished product. That just makes the wait for an official release date that much more difficult, though someone at Bethesda will hopefully be able to spill the beans soon, especially as fans have already had to wait longer after last year’s delay.
Starfield is expected to release in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
