McQuaid took a run at Roussel near the boards and missed. Roussel took exception and retaliated with the cross-check. McQuaid dropped to the ice for a moment, and Roussel was handed a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
McQuaid spent some time in the dressing room after the hit but returned to the game.
Roussel was fined $5,376.34 by the NHL in November for sucker-punching Sharks defenseman Justin Braun.
