Notably, the talented youngster also broke the record for the fastest to reach 5 ODI centuries, in his nation’s tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. At 21 years and 207 days and on his 19th ODI, he became the quickest to five ODI tons.

He started his career slowly before three back-to-back hundreds against India at home last season announced his arrival on the big stage. His first ODI century (also his first 50+ score) came in his 9th innings for Proteas. Till the first ODI against Zimbabwe, he enjoyed a 100% conversion ratio of his fifties into hundreds. His innings of 63 last Sunday was the first time he failed to reach three figure mark after crossing 50.

He will now be targetting teammate Hashim Amla’s record for the fastest to reach 2000 runs. His opening partner required only 40 innings for the same.
