RELATED: Steam Deck - How To Take And Transfer Screenshots
However, to remain attractive to gamers, the Steam Deck must offer quality-of-life features that allow multiple users to share the same system. Features like this are already expected and commonplace on PlayStation and Xbox systems. Thankfully, the Steam Deck also offers its users a chance to let more than one user access the expensive piece of tech. It’s a vital feature for families in the same household as several players will have a personal gaming library, save game files, and more.
Why Switch Users On The Steam Deck?
As with the Steam app on home computer systems, multiple players can log in and swap users on the Steam Deck and access their Steam games. This means that each user can adjust the system’s settings to their liking and to suit their needs. Since Valve’s handheld system can be used in desktop mode, this feature is more significant to the user than using a single app.
The feature is more akin to multiple users on a PC as it goes far beyond gaming. The desktop mode offers users a fully-featured Linux operating system that - with the right tools - can be used like an extra laptop or PC. Thanks to the power of the Steam Deck, this can be a significant upgrade on an entry-level machine.
How To Switch Steam Deck Users
If one is new to the Steam Deck, figuring out how to switch users on the system can be troublesome to locate in the machine’s many settings. Players can switch accounts and make the Steam Deck tailored to their needs by using the following instructions:
Create A Steam Account
Create a Steam account on a PC. For better synchronicity between the Steam Deck and PC, install the Steam app. With a Steam account created, switch back to the Steam Deck.
Back To The Steam Deck
Boot up the Steam Deck. Press the profile picture in the top right corner using the touch screen.
Scroll down and select change account. Press the + icon. Log in to the second Steam account with the newly created details. The new user will be saved to the system, and users can select their account before logging into the Steam Deck.
Now that Steam Deck can switch accounts, multiple users can activate Family Sharing and share their gaming libraries.
The Steam Deck is available now from the Steam Store.
