Despite stiff competition from the Epic Games Store, Valve’s Steam digital distribution service remains the primary way people play and purchase video games on PC. Unfortunately, Steam users are running into some serious issues today, with many reporting that Steam is currently down and not working for them.

The problems with Steam appear to have started within the last hour, with users stating that they can’t open the store or if they can, they are unable to make any purchases. Users from all over are reporting problems with Steam, so the outage does appear to be widespread and impacting quite a few people. However, it’s unclear at the time of writing if absolutely all Steam users are currently unable to use the service or not.

Some users are stating that while they have been able to use Steam in the past hour that the service is now working for them, albeit not very well. In any case, this is an especially bad time for Steam to go down, as it’s in the middle of its big Summer Sale event, so Valve will likely work to get Steam back up and running very quickly.

We will update this article as soon as Steam services have been completely restored.
