Pouncey underwent surgery after fracturing his left fibula in the Steelers’ second preseason game against the Packers on Aug. 23. He can join the team for practices after Week 6 but won’t be eligible to play until Week 9 when Pittsburgh hosts the Raiders.

In a corresponding move, the Steelers added veteran Doug Legursky to take Pouncey’s place on the roster as he continues his recovery. The team signed Legursky two days after Pouncey’s injury before cutting him Saturday and re-signing him Sunday.
The Steelers will also be without suspended running back Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver Martavis Bryant when they visit the Patriots in Thursday’s season opener.
